INFORMATION FOR NEW MEMBERS - TRAINING
Each training session is carefully planned and prepared by the squad coach in accordance with the squad’s criteria, eg sessions for the younger swimmer tend to focus more on skill / stroke development.
At training sessions we hope that parents WILL:
- Feel welcome to stay and watch training, particularly if you have a young swimmer- if you do not stay, ensure you are contactable.
- Help your swimmer to arrive on time with the correct equipment
- swimwear, towel, 2 pairs of goggles, kickboard, pullbuoy, fins, hat (if worn) and a large drink (water is best).
- Make sure that you pick your swimmer up on time as it can be very distressing for the child if you are late.
- Mark your swimmer’s kit with their name – it’s so easy for things to get lost.
- Praise your swimmer when they have concentrated, listened, and followed the coach’s instructions.
We ask that parents DO NOT
- Praise or encourage for being the ‘fastest’ or ‘beating’ others in training – these sessions are not competitions!
- ‘Coach’ from the gallery – this can confuse, upset and embarrass your child
- Compare your swimmer’s ability with others - individual children’s swimming develops at different rates.
