HILLINGDON SWIMMING CLUB NEWS 15.7.10 EUROPEAN JUNIOR CHAMPS, HELSINKI - KARLEY TAKES EUROPEAN TITLE & SETS NEW BRITISH RECORD!
Karley Mann has won the 200m Backstroke event in the European Junior Championships in Helsinki!
Karley swam an amazing lifetime best of 2.12.23 in the 200m Backstroke heats to qualify fastest for the semi finals of the European Junior Championships.
She then qualified fastest for the final. Today, Karley swam in the final and surpassed her previous performances yet again with a record setting swim of 2:11.48, taking Stephanie Proud’s British Junior Long Course Record (set in 2004) and also the European Junior title.
MINI YOUTH GAMES 1.7.10 - Hillingdon team are 2nd overall. A team of 8 swimmers from Hillingdon Swimming Club went to Crystal Palace on 1st July to compete against 26 other London Boroughs and were rewarded with second overall place.
NATIONAL QUALIFIERS Twenty-two Hillingdon Swimming Club swimmers will be going to Age Group or Youth Swimming Nationals this summer. Fifteen have qualified for indiviidual events. WINDSOR GALA A team from RNSS house competed at the Windsor gala on 22nd May, winning the top visting club award. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The AGM of Hillingdon SC was held on Tuesday 4th May 2010. Chairman and coaches’ reports summarised a successful year with strong achievements both in and out of the water. Swimming successes included our largest ever team at Nationals, our 2nd year in a row at the National Diddy league final and many individual and team successes at meets through the year. Hillingdon SC members won 5 out of 8 possible awards at the London Region Volunteer awards with Dave Austin and Ellie South going on to represent the London Region at the National ASA event. Our teaching team won Young Achievers’ awards from Hillingdon Council whilst the entire club won the Hillingdon Sports Club of the Year award. Head Coach of RNSS, Lesley Westendorp acknowledged the work of the committee in the development of the club and provided a set of clear guidelines for parents in supporting their swimmers. Debbie Wilson stood down as Chairman and was replaced in the role by Wayne Hirst. In recognition of the continuing growth and development of the club two new positions of 'Head of House’ were created. Debbie Wilson has taken on the HBEST role and Karen Keeling joined the committee as Head of RNSS House. The House Heads will be the first point of contact for house specific matters, working with the rest of the committee to continue club development. HBEST SWIMMERS RECEIVE MIDDLESEX BAGCATS AWARDS (24.5.10) A presentation of the BAGCATS awards won by Hillingdon swimmers at the Middlesex Champs in Feb/Mar was made at the new Hillingdon pool on 24th May. Winners were:- Daniel Lachasseigne - 1st place, 9yr boys George Taplin - 1st place, 10yr boys Bradley O'Connor - 3rd place, 11yr boys Danny Nelson - 1st place, 12yr boys Adam Prunty - 2nd place, 14yr boys Tegan Drew - 1st place, 9yr girls & Junior Wilkinson Sword winner Lauren O'Connor - 3rd place, 10yr girls Sarah Procter - 1st place, 13yr girls Kate Wilson - 3rd place, 13yr girls
KARLEY MANN ACHIEVES EUROPEAN SELECTION (7.4.10)
Karley Mann achieved automatic selection for the European Junior Championships by swimming 2:15.15 in the 200m backstroke at the British Championships last week. Francesca Marr, Sophie Wilson and Luke Spain also competed at the Championships - click here to read more details of their achievements.
OPENING OF HILLINGDON NEW 50M POOL COMPLEX 23.3.10 Mayor of London, Boris Johnson opened the new £31m Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex in west London on 23 March. The state-of-the-art complex features the first 50m Olympic-sized swimming pool to be built in London for more than 45 years.
