Karley Mann, Francesca Marr, Sophie Wilson and Luke Spain all competed at the British Championships at Sheffield just before Easter. All four Hillingdon swimmers reached the senior top 20 in their respective events. Francesca made semi finals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke. She was also in the top 20 for the 200m breaststroke which only had a final (no semi-finals). Sophie Wilson finished 16th overall in the 200 IM - she was only two seconds off making the final. Luke Spain swam a great 1.05.7 to blast into the semi finals of the men’s 100m Breaststroke. Luke finished an amazing 4th in the Junior Men’s category, but he unfortunately just missed the qualifying time for selection to the European Junior Championships. However, for a swimmer who only qualified for their first Nationals last year, this achievement is a big step forward. Karley swam a good 1.04.9 in the 100m back and exceeded that performance with a fantastic 2.16.8 in the heats of the 200m back making the Senior Ladies Final in 10th position. Karley is Hillingdon's first ever British Championships Senior Finalist. In the final, Karley improved her time to 2:15.15, which gives her automatic selection for the European Junior Championships. She finished 6th overall, with Lizzie Simmonds and Gemma Spofforth taking 1st and 2nd places! Well done to all our swimmers and also to their coach David Hemmings!
