TEACHING SECTION

Welcome to the Hillingdon Swimming Club Teaching Section which is a first step towards joining the competitive part of the club. We aim to take beginner/novice swimmers and through our Teaching Plan develop them into club swimmers by concentrating on the four basic swimming strokes with the emphasis on good technique at all stages.

In accordance with the Long Term Athlete Development Plan (click here for link) the lessons are designed to be a fun, structured and incorporate positive reinforcement at all stages of the learning process.

The teaching section is also an important part of our club as it also provides the means for some of our older swimmers to begin the pathway towards becoming qualified swimming teachers and coaches. These swimmers gain experience acting as poolside helpers then go on to become teachers assistants during which time they are mentored by our experienced qualified teachers.

The lessons take place between 3pm and 6pm on Sunday afternoons at Highgrove Swimming Pool in blocks of 12 weeks during school term time, with a break of one week each half term. Please note:  from April 2012 due to the Highgrove Pool refurbishment, lessons will take place at The John Lyon Pool, Harrow, until further notice. The timings remain the same, between 3pm and 6pm on Sunday afternoons in blocks of 12 weeks during school term time, with a break of one week each half term.

Parents are not permitted on poolside but may watch from the viewing gallery, with the exception of the very first lesson when the parent should accompany their child to meet the Head of the Junior Section by the small teaching pool.

When children are not in their lesson they are the responsibility of the parent/carer and must not be left unsupervised in the building.

Fees are payable termly in advance of the first session, notifications are sent out by our Membership Secretary. Please remember the club is a community club run by volunteers, prompt payment is appreciated.
